The rich and famous are certainly not immune to legal troubles. A former Atlanta Braves All-Star baseball player found that out recently, after he was arrested in his home for domestic violence and charged with battery.

According to the report, Andruw Jones had been drinking during a party and he was involved in a domestic verbal dispute with his wife shortly after 1:00 in the morning. That is when he is alleged to have threatened to kill his wife and to have placed his arms around her neck. Although there was no report of the need for medical attention, the police report states that there were visible injuries to Jones’ wife.

Any charge of battery should be taken very seriously in the state of Georgia, as the penalties are enhanced when the crime is considered to be one of domestic violence and not an ordinary misdemeanor. Severe sentences can be imposed for these crimes, in addition to heavy fines, court ordered counseling, probation and the loss of gun ownership rights. These types of charges can also inflict tremendous damage to a person’s reputation and career.

In addition to these potential penalties, a Temporary Protective Order may be placed against the baseball star which would limit his access to his home. Anyone who is charged with this type of crime should immediately begin assessing the legal defense options in order to obtain the best possible result. Many defense strategies can be employed to vigorously defend an arrestee against such accusations in a court of law. Bottom of Form
