Two teens near Dekalb county face criminal charges

On Behalf of | Oct 3, 2013 | Criminal Defense |

When two young people are charged with a crime, they often need a good defense to make sure it stays off of their permanent record. However, when those criminal charges include murder, the teens needs the best defense they can possibly put forth.

This appears to be the case for two teens that were recently arrested near Dekalb County. The body of an 18-year-old was found allegedly stabbed to death near South Marietta Parkway and Aviation Road. After police performed an investigation, they found the victim had allegedly been in an altercation with the two defendants. Defendants, a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old have been charged as adults for the alleged murder of the 18-year-old. It is unknown at this time if there were any witnesses to the alleged altercation, or if there were any witnesses who saw how the victim was killed.

It is apparent that most minors need a criminal defense that is just as strong as an adult would need. For them, the potential long-term consequences are even direr. If convicted, minors can be forced to live the rest of their lives with a criminal conviction on their record. For that reason, it is often best to deal with the allegations as quickly as possible.

Whatever the applicable defense, it should be applied as quickly as possible, even if that is a plea negotiation to reduce the amount of jail time or penalties. That way, it minimizes the long term impact on the young person.

Having a criminal record as a minor could make the rest of the young boy or girl’s life more difficult. As such, it is best to deal with those matters as quickly and diligently as possible.
