Three men have recently been arrested and are facing felony charges in Georgia in relation to an investigation into drug activity in the home of an elderly person. Felony drug charges carry serious penalties if a conviction is obtained, which only increase in severity if additional charges follow. Those who are accused of similar crimes might find it beneficial to prepare for what comes next by focusing on their defense with guidance from an attorney.
According to reports, authorities initiated a search of the home of a woman who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease on a recent Monday. During the search, police allegedly unearthed the presence various types and amounts of narcotics, including as many as 65 grams of methamphetamine. They claim the woman was unaware of what was happening, and that there were three men at the residence during the search, each of whom was taken into custody soon thereafter.
All three are reportedly facing multiple charges in relation to the incident, including felony charges for possession and trafficking of methamphetamine. Two of the men have also been accused of exploiting an elder by allegedly operating a drug dwelling out of the home without her knowledge. Charges of this nature are severe, and if convicted, each could be facing a lengthy prison term, as well as a substantial amount in monetary fines.
When facing felony drug charges, one may find it advisable to seek advice in the initial stages of the process. By consulting with a defense attorney, a client could gain a better understanding of the consequences he or she may face. An attorney in Georgia can examine the circumstances a client is facing and provide assistance and guidance in pursuing the best outcome possible given the circumstances.
