Many people who are accused of crimes in Georgia have little to no legal training. As a result, they are often unsure how to respond to criminal accusations. In fact, three young people may need guidance as they navigate the criminal process after being accused of burglary.

The events that led to their arrest allegedly happened in late April. Police reportedly responded to a residence after they received a report that “suspicious suspects” were at the front door. A young woman in the home reportedly hid upstairs and claims she heard multiple people enter the home.

Several items, including a pair of shoes, two weapons and plastic jars filled with coins were allegedly taken from the home. Police say that they received a call later that same day about two men attempting to cash in a large amount of change at a grocery store. Though it was unclear what about their attempts garnered the manager’s attention, police arrived at the scene. The two men, ages 22 and 18, were taken into custody, as was a 17-year-old woman who was reportedly waiting for them in the car. Police say that the plastic containers containing the coins were discovered in their car.

Unfortunately, an arrest and subsequent criminal charges can be overwhelming, especially for young people. Because of the burglary accusations, the two defendants now face decisions that could ultimately have a significant impact on the rest of their lives. An experienced criminal defense attorney in Georgia can help ensure that they understand all of their options, including whether to fight the charges in court or accept a plea deal if offered, and the potential outcomes of each.
